Nigerian billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has revealed that he has more than 13,000 contacts saved on his phone, explaining that he has maintained the same phone number since 2000 and does not like blocking people.Dangote made the disclosure on Monday, October 19, 2026, during an interactive session with Nigerian creatives in Lagos while hosting them on a tour of his refinery.During a conversation with veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, the industrialist shared insights into his personal preferences, phone habits and approach to business. When asked to choose between football and Afrobeats, Dangote revealed that he is a football enthusiast and an Arsenal supporter. He was also asked whether he would rather spend ₦1 billion on a party or invest the money in another factory. Dangote chose to invest in another factory, highlighting his preference for business expansion over extravagant spending. The conversation later turned to whether he would prefer to spend a week without his phone or his private jet. Dangote made it clear that being without his phone would be particularly difficult.“I think it’s easier to take me to jail than to take my phone away. Taking my phone is no-go area,” he said.Reacting to the revelation, RMD recalled that their attempt to watch a movie together the previous day had been interrupted by Dangote’s constantly ringing phone.Explaining the frequent calls, Dangote said he had retained the same phone number since 2000 and had accumulated more than 13,000 contacts over the years.“I have that number since the year 2000. Do you know how many contacts I have? I have more than 13 thousand contacts on my phone. I don’t like blocking people, so a lot of people have my number,” he explained. The billionaire also disclosed that he prefers driving himself rather than relying on his personal driver, adding that he considers himself a better driver. His remarks have attracted attention on social media, with users sharing humorous reactions to his large contact list and his reluctance to block people. While some commenters compared Dangote’s phone habits with their own, others offered prayers for his continued success and protection. The revelation has generated conversations about accessibility, personal relationships and how prominent business figures manage their communication in an increasingly connected world.
